If You're Struggling But Afraid to Step Away From Work

You may have options. FMLA can provide eligible employees with job-protected medical leave, and your private medical information is protected by law. We can help guide you through the paperwork so you can focus on what matters most—getting healthy and coming back stronger.

1

Your job can be protected

Federal FMLA and many state laws guarantee unpaid, job-protected leave for eligible employees seeking medical treatment, including substance use treatment.

2

Your privacy is protected

Employers are only entitled to know you're on approved medical leave — not your diagnosis or treatment details. HIPAA protects the rest.

3

Some states go further

States like California, New York, and New Jersey offer paid leave and cover smaller employers than federal FMLA requires. Find your state on the map below.

4

We'll help with the paperwork

Our admissions team has walked many clients through FMLA and state leave paperwork alongside their treatment plan — call and we'll help you think it through.

Federal FMLA basics: if you've worked for your employer at least 12 months and 1,250 hours, and they have 50+ employees within 75 miles, you may be able to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my employer know why I'm on leave?

No. Under FMLA and HIPAA, your employer is only entitled to know that you're on approved medical leave — not your diagnosis or the details of your treatment. Reform Recovery can also help you communicate with HR in a way that protects your privacy.

What if my employer has fewer than 50 employees?

Federal FMLA only applies to employers with 50+ employees within 75 miles, but many states have their own leave laws with lower thresholds — some as low as 5 employees. Click your state on the map above to see what applies to you.

Can Reform Recovery help me with the FMLA paperwork?

Yes. Our admissions team has helped many clients navigate FMLA and state leave paperwork alongside their treatment plan. Call 844-R-REFORM and we can walk you through it.
